Task 11 Indiv. Technical Analysis Deadline: Thursday 29th September 6pm

Your concept should now be taking shape.  Choose a video each that is very similar technically to your idea to analyse.  It doesn't have to be for the same genre as your track, but should be in the same style so that it can directly inform your concept.  Submit as a post, this should contain:

  1. embedded video
  2. Shot by shot break down of key sequences - if there is repetition then it isn't necessary to do the whole video (length of shot in secs, framing, movement, key aspects of mise-en-scene, any creative transitions)
  3. Choose 10 frames that could inspire your work and annotate to say what you like about them

Make sure you use lots of technical terminology.  CLICK HERE for an exemplary post from last year

Task 4 CF- Analysis of a promo package Deadline Sunday 18th Sept

DUE Sunday 18th Sept 8pm.  Individual task.

Choose a video and print text (advertisement, digipak) and analyse how the promo package constructs the star image.  Consider the technical aspects that have been used, how the two texts link together and what values are reinforced through the star / band image.  You should use Dyer in your analysis, but should also use other critical frameworks to support your observations, such as narrative theory, binary oppositions, semiotics.

The post should have the video and print text embedded, and still shots to illustrate your specific points. You might choose to analyse the print text on a PPT slide and upload, so that you can draw arrows to aspects of the design. CLICK here for an exemplar. This analysis is slightly different; it was a group task and discusses 2 videos and 2 digipaks, however it is well presented and excellent use of theory so gives you an indication of a high level 4 standard.

The chosen video should be for your chosen artist, or at least in the similar genre/style so that it is relevant to your concept development.

Task 3 - KJ - Track Choice Treatment - Deadline - Friday 16 September

  • Post a link to your track
  • Write a summary of your visual ideas so far for your chosen track.
  • Include the lyrics with some annotation.

  • Research into specific genre (s) of music - what are the conventions?  Which artists are key in this genre?.
